I agree this needs to be broadcast in all media. By withdrawing the app Samsung are making it certain we can't continue to SKYPE on our TV and this is unacceptable unless they are providing a workable alternative of their own. I just don't accept that excuse.Īs I understand it, when support is withdrawn for a product eg Windows XP it doesn't mean it won't still operate just that the company will not "support" it if it goes wrong. Microsoft's excuse is that not enough people use the service and prefer to SKYPE on a tablet or other device. Yes, I can also SKYPE on laptop or Smart 'phone but to see the family on the wide screen in our living room enhances the experience.Īs I read the situation Microsoft announced that they will withdraw support for SKYPE on TV from June and Samsung have jumped the gun by withdrawing the app altogether from 2.6.16. I too was very irritated by this announcement as I bought my Samsung SMART TV a year or so back + Samsung camera so that I could SKYPE my son and grandchildren who live abroad. Of-course the real reason skype might want to do this is perhaps they cant spy on you as much on smart tv's as they can with other devices!

The danger for Samsung is their Smart TV's are no longer worth the money which makes this first in the cue to get rid of Skype app seem mind boggling stupid! Microsoft yet again misses the market everything they do is for money therefore non-smart-TV users are about to be charged big time and when that happens no more skype as theres loads better FREE apps out there and then they will be begging to get back on this platform.
#How to skype on tv software#
I am a international tech blogger, my advice is never put skype software on a computer from windows 7 up it will one kill your HD/OS. My point on this is why Samsung needs to be the first to pull the app at all why cant they leave on even if totally unsupported many of us bought TV in good faith because it had the facility and should tell micro-crap to bog off? Cheers to the guy above who posted this threads link in the samsung 6800 nano forums.
